PSP Outsold by DSi XL According to NPD

NPD reports that last March our beloved PSP handhelds got beat yet again by its rival, the Nintendo DS. This time around the DSi XL outsold both the PSP and PSP Go COMBINED.

The DSi XL sold 141,000 units while the PSPs totaled 120,000. And here's the kicker - the DSi XL sale was based on only four days of sale since it was released March 28! This just goes to show that the DS is not yet dead and the PSP needs improvement if it wants to survive.

LittleBigPlanet or Assassin's Creed Free on New PSP Go

If you're still holding out on buying a new PSP Go, today is a good day to cave in. Sony Computer Entertainment America is now offering a free copy of LittleBigPlanet or Assassin's Creed for new North American PSP Go owners.

You must add a PlayStation Network to your system, though. This also determines whether you get Assasin's Creed or LittleBigPlanet. If your PSN account states that your still a minor, you'll get those cute LittleBigPlanet guys. If you're man enough you'll get your hands on some assassin mayhem.

Flights to and from South Korea are made just a little bit more AWESOME if you're flying via Jin Air. They are offering passengers the option to rent a PSP Go for just 4,000 won (roughly $3.50). It comes packed with games which the press release failed to identify. We like the idea and we're hoping for some American companies to follow suite.

PSP Go Sells 28k on Japan

The numbers are in and according to Enterbrain, the PSP Go sold 28,275 units on its first day in Japan. Not bad I would say, but not good either. See, the DSi sold 170,770 units on its first TWO days in Japan, beating are beloved handheld by quite a margin. But that doesn't mean the end for the PSP Go! It still has a long way to go and fans are expecting more awesome games in months to come.

PSP Go: What's in it for me?

That's one of the questions posed by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a recent interview with The Washington Post. A legitimate question, and one that we hope we'll hear an answer to.

In the interview, Reggie expresses his respect for all Nintendo competitors. However, it looks like he does not see the value of the PSP Go to the consumers. "Who's it for?" and "What's the benefit?" are the problems that he sees in the PSP's newest addition to its hardware.

PSP Go Knock-Off Not So Awesome

It's only been over a week since the official release of the Sony PSP Go and pirates are already at it. Just take a look at the PSP Go clone pictured above.

Sure it certainly looks like a PSP Go, but the similarities end there. For one, it doesn't play any PSP games. Instead it's an emulator for 16-bit games. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!! It's also a camera, an FM radio, and MP3 player.

PSP Go Unboxing VIDEO

Be warned: this post is not for the weak of heart. Especially if you don't own a PSP Go yet. Watching other people unboxing one is both a chore and a delight. There's a lot of awesome PSP Go unboxing videos in the interwebs; some are more professional than others, but most are from regular people and bloggers. Here's one of my favorites.

Will there be an "app store" for PSP Go?

Another rumor concerning Sony's PSP Go is spreading across the 'nets: an app store for the PSP Go with shockingly low-priced games! Awesome, if true...

According to Pocket Gamer, games will be priced from 1,2 and 5 Euros per game. It doesn't say, though, if these games are old titles or new games.

Sony Considered 2nd Analog Stick for the PSP Go

It sure felt awkward when I first held a PSP and noticed that there's just one stick to fiddle with. I'm sure many of you readers felt the same. And I'm sure you also wished that Sony didn't make the PSP so. Luckily for them, PSP games made it work.

Now according to Game Informer magazine, Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that Sony "had a very serious discussion" about putting a second analog stick on the PSP Go. In the end, though, they went against it saying that the PSP Go is designed to be perfectly compatible with previous PSP games.

PSP Go Games Download Averages 600-800MB

Just how much "game" can a PSP Go handle? An average PSP game download size is around 600-800MB says Al de Leon, a Sony representative. So considering PSP Go's 16GB capacity (w/o additional memory) can hold an estimated 17-19 games. That's quite a lot of you ask me. Add to that another 16GB of M2 storage and your in for a endless hours of gameplay.

Still, there are games that are lower or higher than 600 or 800 MB. Take for example Patapon 2 which is less than 400MB and Final Fantasy VII which is 1.3GB. In any case, the PSP Go memory could hold enough games without gamers asking for more.

Can You Play Games on the PSP Go if it is "Closed"?

There's no denying that the PSP Go looks extra cool when it is closed, especially with its bright screen. But can you play games when the PSP Go is in its closed state? That's the question the guys over at joystiq want answered.

According to a Sony representative,  they haven't announced yet any titles in development that would strictly make use of the PSP Go's L/R shoulder buttons. User's will be able to access apps on the XMB though such as videos and music when the PSP Go is closed. But they need to launch it first before closing.

Welcome to PSP Go! Games

Hola! This game is dedicated to the (rumored) new PSP system that is said to come out in Japan this year. There's no official word from Sony suites as of yet, but 1UP has a pretty convincing post about the PSP Go!

Basically, the rumor is a new PSP hardware design will show up on E3 2009. The PSP Go! will not have a UMD drive, and will come in 8GB and 16GB models. Oh, and it has an awesome cool sliding screen too! As for games, 1UP says that 100 classic and new games will be available upon the release date. Nice!

Well, that's it for now. Stay tuned to this blog for more PSP Go! goodies.
